Royal Hospital Chelsea Ride
Growing on our success of the previous four years this will be the fifth year we have had an invitation to join the Chelsea Pensioners at their home the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Limited to 200 bikes do not miss this very special day!
Riding from your chosen start location guided by your run leader, we all ride and meet up with the other groups at Heston Services on the M4.
Please come to the registration desk (Located in the car park) to register and collect your wristband. PLEASE NOTE, you will not be allowed into the hospital grounds withour a wristband.
A quick rest and briefing at 08:30hrs from the blood bikers who will then marshal you and the other 199 bikes along the 11 mile route into the Royal Hospital Chelsea to be greeted by the Pensioners.
Arriving at the hospital a hot dog and a welcome brew will be provided by the Bike Tours for the Wounded support team this is part of your registration fee. This is the time to meet the pensioners and have plenty of photos taken.
A morning parade for the more able in-pensioners on the main square is the norm for a Sunday morning in the Summer months. Any veterans in our group were invited to join them on the this parade. (try to remember the drill movements) We were also reminded that although the hospital has not got a guardroom with a jail, there is a cookhouse for a bit of ‘’Spud Bashing’’ if your drill is not up to standard!
The morning service (not compulsory) follows at 1100hrs in the Hospital Chapel. This is a short service led by the Chaplin and the choir and it is worth joining the pensioners and the local congregation.
After the service you can explore the grounds where there will be plenty of time for photo opportunities and visit the café to sample their sandwiches and cakes before making your own way home.
